About honey and the bees…

Nectar is a sweet juice secreted by melliferous plants at the air temperature between 20ᵒC and 30ᵒC. It is at that point that worker bees commence collecting the sweet nectar which they subsequently convert into honey. 3 kg of nectar need to be processed to obtain 1kg of honey, which implies that the bees need to visit 7.5 million different wildflower meadows or 2 million acacia flowers.

About us…

VARŽAK MED is a family business whose development commenced back in 1978. In a quiet part of the Zagreb County, in the heart of the Sava river basin, Antun Varžak, the head of the Varžak family, established an apiary site in Vrbovo Posavsko village with only some 30 Langstroth beehives. He transmitted his love for the bees to the entire family and soon the apiary expanded considerably. With around 500 beehives we were an important partner to Pčelarska Centrala (meaning Bee Central).

In 1994 through the foundation of a small business Varžak, our first honey and bee products were placed on the market. Currently, in accordance with the family tradition and due to our love for the bees we expanded into a company which has an important role on the honey market of the Republic of Croatia...

Thanks to our business partners, we are present throughout the Republic of Croatia, both in retail market chains and in diverse industrial branches: pharmaceutics, baker’s trade, confectionery industry…
